Important Information on Zithromax
Zithromax is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a number of bacterial infections and other medical conditions as determined by a doctor.
Drug Uses
Zithromax is used to treat mild to moderate skin infections, respiratory infections, pharyngitis (strep throat), tonsillitis, obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, sexually transmitted diseases of the cervix or urinary tract, and genital ulcers in men. Zithromax is prescribed for children suffering from pneumonia, tonsillitis, strep throat and middle ear infections.
Dosage
Zithromax is to be taken exactly as prescribed by a doctor. Never increase or decrease the dosage without consulting your doctor. Zithromax comes in the form of capsules to be taken orally, as well as an adult oral suspension and a pediatric oral suspension. Zithromax does not have to be taken with food.
Do not discontinue treatment with Zithromax without consulting your doctor. Early cessation of this medication can result in the bacteria surviving and becoming immune to Zithromax and other drugs.
Zithromax should be taken at least one hour before, or two hours after, a meal. If you are using the oral suspension, mix the entire contents of the dose in two ounces of water and drink immediately. If there is any residue of the medication in the glass, add some more water and drink again. Repeat this procedure until there is no trace of the medication in the glass.
If using the pediatric suspension for your child, shake the bottle thoroughly and measure each dose with the supplied calibrated dropper. Do not store the pediatric suspension for more than 10 days.
